Monday, January 1 every day

We’re wired to like starts. A new year. The first day of the month. A new day. All of these are opportunities to wipe the slate clean, to leave the past behind and to start turning attention forward.

Intellectually, though…there’s nothing inherently special about any of those fresh starts…They are all arbitrary, which means they can be utilized as tools to spur action (Daniel Pink describes this in his book, When). For that matter, we just passed July 1...meaning it's the start to the 2nd half of the calendar year, maybe the start of a new fiscal year. Fresh starts everywhere!

So what if we changed our approach. What if we approached tomorrow like January 1? What if the next hour were 9 a.m.? What if today were Monday?

Identify one important priority that you’ve been stuck with. Wipe away the past. If you were taking on this priority fresh today, with a Monday, January 1 mindset, how would you go approach it? Revise your plan accordingly!
